DESCRIPTION:

The illumination of the night sky and turbulence in the air are the major hindrances to observing faint objects beyond the solar system. Artificial lighting, such as street lights, obstructs the sky in human settlements from being naturally black. Consequently, the perception of deep-sky objects is also compromised due to the reduced contrast. However, depending on the type of celestial object, a part of the interfering light can be filtered out, making it easier to observe them.

To counter this problem, the Explore Scientific S-II filter uses the property of the emission mist. Emission mist objects emit specific colors, also known as emission lines. These emission lines are connected to specific chemical elements, such as ionized sulfur. The Explore Scientific S-II nebula filter blocks all colors except the emission lines of ionized sulfur at 672 nm. The result is remarkable - fog becomes visible in places that seem completely empty without the filter. With slightly brighter skies, this filter makes it possible to view planetary nebulae, emission nebulae and supernova remnants with ease. It is a must-have for every amateur visual astronomer and astrophotographer.
